How the URL shortener works

Functionality of the URL SHORTENER

A URL shortener converts long URLs into shorter, more shareable links.

The process typically consists of three steps:

  1. Input of the long URL: The user enters the URL that needs to be shortened.
  2. Generation of the short link: The URL shortener automatically creates a short, custom code that replaces the long URL.
  3. QR Code: Additionally, a QR code is generated for the shortened link, which can be scanned with a smartphone and leads directly to the target page.
  4. Sharing the link: The user can copy the generated short link and share it in emails, tweets, text messages, or on social media platforms.

When the user clicks on the short link, they are automatically redirected to the original URL. The URL shortener can track clicks and collect statistical data such as the number of clicks and geographic distribution.

Some URL shorteners offer additional features such as custom links and traffic analytics. There are also specialized URL shorteners designed for specific purposes like social media or SMS links.
